Free Laser Kerf Test Card for Finger Joints

Make a free laser kerf test card: pick your material, laser and thickness, cut the card and read the kerf off the snug slot. SVG and LightBurn files.

How do you measure laser kerf?

Pick your material, laser type and measured thickness. The card estimates your kerf and cuts five blocks whose slots step through the values around it. Push a scrap of the same sheet into each slot: the number under the snug one is your kerf, the same value Box Maker uses for press-fit finger joints.

Kerf Test Card at a glance: inputs, outputs, limits and cost

InputMaterial, laser type (diode, CO2 or fiber), measured thickness and cut power
OutputA true-size SVG and xTool SVG with the slot values as score lines, and the LightBurn .lbrn2 Box Maker exports
CostFree: no account, no credits
LimitsThe estimate is a starting point: the snug slot on your own machine is the measurement.

What does the kerf test card do?

  • The same kerf estimate and slot sweep as Box Maker, so the numbers match.
  • Six starter setups for plywood, MDF, acrylic and basswood on diode and CO2 lasers.
  • Numbers drawn as score lines, so the SVG needs no font.

Questions about the kerf test card

What is a typical laser kerf?

Usually 0.1 to 0.2 mm for diode and CO2 lasers in 3 mm wood. It changes with focus, power and material, so measure it on your machine.

How do I use the result?

Type the number under the snug slot into the Kerf field in Box Maker. The finger joints are then compensated half a kerf on each side.
