Design files for your Monport CO2 or fiber laser

Monport sells CO2, fiber, UV and diode lasers, and its own software guide says the right program depends on the machine’s controller, not on the laser type. It names LightBurn and RDWorks for its 60W CO2, EZCAD for galvo fiber markers, and its own M-Design Hub for the MEGA and MEGAS line. Reticle Red prepares the file for whichever one you run: a LightBurn test grid, an EZCAD card for fiber, or AI art fitted to your part.

For a CO2 machine, the free test grid writes a .lbrn2 with each cell on its own layer and its speed and power set, and Box Maker downloads boxes as .lbrn2, SVG or DXF. For a fiber marker, the EZCAD test card writes a DXF with one pen per cell plus a CSV of each pen. No account and no credits for any of them.

Fill it with AI

Paint the art zone on a photo or outline of the part and fire: the art is generated inside that zone, keeping holes and borders clear. On the Download card, pick LightBurn for a .lbrn2, or EZCAD for a fiber marker, at the part size you type. The Run Plan shows the engine and the live price before anything runs, and failed AI jobs refund automatically.

Bring a Reticle Red file into a Monport job

  1. 1. Check the controller before the software

Monport’s guide says compatibility follows the controller, not whether a laser is called CO2, diode or fiber. Find out whether yours is GCode, Ruida DSP or a galvo board, then pick the program that matches it.

  2. 2. CO2: open the grid in LightBurn, or import an SVG into RDWorks

Use File > Open on the test grid .lbrn2 so its layers keep their speed and power. If you drive a Ruida machine from RDWorks, download the SVG or DXF instead of the .lbrn2 and import that.

  3. 3. Fiber: unzip the EZCAD download

Import the DXF into EZCAD, then set each pen from the CSV. Monport says a machine labelled fiber or MOPA is not automatically LightBurn-compatible, so confirm your galvo controller before you run it from LightBurn.

Questions Monport owners ask

Which software does a Monport laser use?

It depends on the model. Monport’s guide says its 60W CO2 engraver officially supports both LightBurn and RDWorks, names EZCAD for galvo fiber systems, and lists M-Design Hub for its MEGA and MEGAS models. Check the page for your exact machine.

Does my Monport come with a LightBurn licence?

Reticle Red cannot say. Monport lists a LightBurn GCode licence key as a separate item for its 40W CO2 engraver only, so check your order and Monport’s page for your model before assuming one is included.

Will LightBurn run my K40-style Monport?

Monport’s own LightBurn page says LightBurn does not support the stock M2-Nano board in the popular K40 and recommends upgrading the motherboard. Machines with GCode, Ruida, Trocen or TopWisdom controllers may be supported.

Which file types can LightBurn open?

Monport’s LightBurn page lists AI, PDF, SVG, DXF, PLT, PNG, JPG, GIF and BMP for import. Reticle Red downloads work with any of its SVG, DXF or .lbrn2 routes; only the .lbrn2 is LightBurn-specific.

Do I need an account?

Not for the test grid, the EZCAD test card, Box Maker or the settings tables. The AI fill in the Fabricator needs a free account, and new accounts get 12 welcome credits with no card.

Production checks before you export

Before the first Monport job, give every layer your own tested speed and power (only the test grid arrives with values), run engrave and score layers before the cut layer, and frame the job inside the bed. On a fiber marker, check that the DXF sits inside the lens field and focus is on the part surface. Run one part on scrap first.
