Color PMAG Design: One Laser Layer per Color at True Size
Watch the 2:40 The Fabricator tutorial, recorded on the live site, with chapters, a step-by-step PDF guide and a link to open the tool. Free to watch.
In this tutorial
- Color needs Simple or Advanced mode, so switch out of Quick in the top bar. We'll use Simple.
- On the Load step, open Part Templates. On the Magazines tab, load the 30-round Gen 3 magazine. It's built to the real part, with a three-millimetre safety margin already taken off.
- Move to the Fire step and describe your art, or pick a Style DNA card. We'll ask for a grim reaper holding a globe, inside an ornate border.
- Open Show All Tools and choose FORGE COLOR. For six credits, it draws the art in a fixed palette and splits it into one layer per color.
- Palette sets those colors. Presets give you ready-made palettes. Solid uses flat fills, and Shaded adds hard-edged tonal planes from the same colors.
- Engraving the magazine itself? Switch on PMAG Tones. Pick the magazine color and your laser, fiber or MOPA, and the palette becomes the tones that laser can make on that polymer.
- Calibrate gives you a free LightBurn test grid. Burn it on a scrap mag, then pick the square that gave each tone, so every layer carries your own settings.
- Then fire. If you're signed out, the button reads Sign In and Fire: new accounts get twelve free credits, and you come straight back to this design.
- Here's a real FORGE COLOR result from the account's history, made on this same magazine, reopened at no cost.
- The art is already split into its colors: navy, red, gold and white. Each one becomes its own layer.
- The Download card shows the part size: one hundred sixty-one millimetres on the long edge, so the file lands at true size.
- Download for LightBurn, xTool or EZCAD. The LightBurn file has one layer per color, plus your part outline on the T1 tool layer, which never burns. Line it up with the part, then start.
