Free V-Carve Text Depth Map Generator

Turn any name or text into a true 16-bit V-carve depth map for laser 3D slice mode. Pick a font, V-bit angle and depth limit in mm. Exact geometry, no credits.

Capabilities & Feature Set

  • Computes the exact V-groove depth from a Euclidean distance transform — no AI, no guesswork, no misspelled names.
  • Exports a true 16-bit grayscale PNG with a pHYs chunk, so LightBurn imports it at real millimetre size.
  • 30, 60, 90 and 120 degree V-bit angles with a machine depth limit that cuts flat-bottomed with true V walls.
  • 36 fonts rated by measured stroke ratio, plus upload your own TTF, OTF or WOFF.
  • Batch mode zips one depth map per name, all sharing a single machine Z setting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the V-Carve Text generator cost credits?

No. It runs entirely in your browser and never calls a model, so it is free and unlimited whether or not you are signed in. A V-carve groove is geometry, not generation — there is nothing to meter.

What depth should I set on my machine?

The tool prints it for you. Every render shows the depth that full black represents, and the downloaded settings card repeats it — set your 3D slice max depth to that number and the part comes out at true size.

Why is my carve flat-bottomed instead of a V?

Because the stroke is wider than your depth budget. A 90 degree bit in a 2 mm stroke wants to reach 1 mm; if you cap it at 0.3 mm the middle cuts flat with true V walls at the edges. The readout shows what percentage hit the cap.

Which fonts work best for V-carving?

Heavy faces. The picker groups all 36 fonts by measured stroke ratio, because depth is a function of stroke width — a fine script at 20 mm can carve under 0.05 mm, finer than most machines resolve. The tool warns you before you burn anything.

Can I make one depth map per name for a batch of tags?

Yes. Paste a list or a CSV column into batch mode and it zips one PNG per name. Keep Z scale on Fixed so every item shares one machine setup instead of needing its own.
